Location
This position is required to work in person at a fire station. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.
Position Overview
The Burlington Fire Department is comprised of highly trained and dedicated professionals committed to enhancing community safety and quality of life. We are currently accepting applications from active professional firefighters holding a 1st class classification or lower. Successful candidates will be reclassified downward by one classification level upon hire until successfully completing a 12-month probationary period. Please note that recognition pay is non-transferable between Fire Departments.

Responsibilities
Firefighting is a physically demanding and highly rewarding career. Successful applicants will respond to a wide range of emergencies, including fires, motor vehicle collisions, and medical calls, as well as provide specialized technical rescue services in areas such as hazardous materials, rope rescue, and surface water and ice water rescue. In addition to emergency response, firefighters play a vital role in public education and fire prevention initiatives. As a firefighter, you will also be responsible for participating in ongoing training and performing routine maintenance of stations, apparatus, and equipment.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must meet and provide documentation of the following mandatory qualifications:
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Eligible candidates shall be current career firefighters
Proof of current firefighting classification
Successfully completed the following assessments through either Firefighter Services of Ontario Ltd. (FSO) or Ontario Fire Administration Inc. (OFAI) for the current employer:
Clinical and Medical Assessments (including vision and hearing)
Firefighter Aptitude and Character Test
Acrophobia Test
Tread Water Test
Encapsulated Treadmill Test
Must successfully complete a Firefighter Physical Aptitude Test (FPAT) at Burlington Fire Headquarters, which includes:
Equipment Carry
Charged Hose Advance
Weighted Sled Pull
Forcible Entry Simulation
Victim Rescue
Ladder Climb
Possess grade 12 or equivalent education
This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense (this is only required upon conditional offer of employment)
A valid Class 'D' Ontario drivers license with ‘Z’ endorsement is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract with no more than three (3) driving related convictions and an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire.
Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
NFPA 1001 - Fire Fighter I & II Certified (proof of Pro Board Seal or IFSAC or OFM Grandfathering)
Starting Salary
$71,674 - $119,456 (Successful candidates will be reclassified downward by one classification level upon hire until successfully completing a 12-month probationary period)
